Everyone loves a GIF. Twitter has it’s own GIF button meaning it’s easy to share content with your followers. iPhone now has a GIF function you can access through your message.
It adds humour to your posts and makes things more relatable. But Facebook has no such option and it has previously been difficult to add GIFs to blog posts without it being displayed as a static image.
I’ve struggled on and off to get GIFs to upload automatically on my Blog’s Facebook Page. I’ve tried copying and pasting the GIF URL but this has always given me an image that you have to click on in order to get it to play.
I’ve tried using the sharing buttons on Giphy.com (I use this site as it seems the most popular and content-rich GIF site I’ve found) but this displays as a button you click to make it play.
I’ve always wanted the GIF to play automatically on someone’s timeline. Giphy now gives you the option to download the GIF. This means you can simply click the download button, save it as a normal file (make sure the file type is GIF) and it will be saved to your computer. Then you can add it to your page as you would normally add a video, and it will play automatically. Obviously this can only be down on a desktop and not on your mobile (which probably why I was struggling for so long! Cutting and pasting on my iPhone just wasn’t cutting it).
And that’s it for Facebook Pages – your GIF will now show on a loop automatically and you can meme away!
Adding to your blog is different but just as easy. Again, you can only do it on a desktop. Instead of clicking the ‘download’ button, simply click the ’embed’ button. This will give you an HTML code which you can copy and paste into your blog post code at the appropriate point – and from there, your readers will be able to view a GIF playing automatically as part of the post.
WHEN YOU REALISE THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF IS ON TONIGHT!
You can align it centre by clicking next to it (back in ‘Visual’ view now) and using the align tools (it will automatically align left).
And that’s it! Now you can add GIFs to blog posts to your heart’s content!
