Sounds a bit dramatic doesn’t it?!
And I am known to be a little dramatic sometimes, but this is different.
Yoga really is everything people said it was and everything I believed it wasn’t.
I used to think yoga was sitting in the lotus position humming and ohmming for hours. I used to think it was supposed to be gentle and easy.
So when I did one class as a student about twelve years ago, I thought I was doing it wrong. I wasn’t relaxed I wasn’t focussed. So I never went back.
When I was pregnant with my eldest, I went to pregnancy yoga classes. This was when I realised what yoga was all about. And a few months ago, I started going to yoga class, run by a good friend of mine, and I fell completely, head over heels in love with it.
I went to improve my wellbeing. To have some me-time. And this is exactly what it has given me. I now practise daily at home if I’m not at class and the sense of peace I have with myself is amazing. I feel so much more free, yet focussed. Flexible, yet strong. In both mind and body.
Yoga can be gentle and easy like the me from twelve years ago thought. It can be sitting in the lotus position and humming. But it can also be hard work and enlightening and empowering. It can make your muscles ache the next day and it can make you fall asleep in a few minutes.
Yoga is guided by us. It teaches us about ourselves, through ourselves.
I know it sounds a bit ridiculous to anyone who doesn’t love yoga, but it really is true.
That’s what so empowering about it.
And I feel so empowered that I am starting a YouTube channel to share my journey! I am by no means a professional yogi, but I want to document my journey on both my blog and a platform which is a bit more personable – where you can actually see me move!
You can have a little look here – it is not ground breaking yoga stuff – just me practising my flows! Sometimes I wobble, sometimes I fall out of postures and sometimes my dog wanders past! But this is my real yoga journey.
I hope you can join me on it.
